Join a Global Forum: the Department of Intellectual Property Invites you to Submit Abstracts for its Workshop at the Upcoming World Congress of Constitutional Law
Our Department of Intellectual Property will participate in the 2026 edition of the World Congress of Constitutional Law, to be held in the city of Bogotá at Universidad Externado de Colombia from July 6 to 10. This congress not only brings together scholars and researchers, but also invites participants from government, civil society, and other stakeholders, with the aim of discussing constitutional matters such as constitutional jurisprudence, human rights, the separation of public powers, and political regimes, as well as theory, philosophy, practical issues, and the contemporary challenges of this field of law.
The general theme proposed for the congress is “Sustainable Constitutionalism: Answers for a Changing World.” Within this broad framework—designed to highlight the challenges constitutional law faces in light of today’s environmental, social, and economic issues—the Department of Intellectual Property will participate with the Workshop: “Rethinking the Social Function of Property in Intellectual Property (IP): A Constitutional Dialogue.”
This workshop aims to open a space for critical and plural reflection on how IP regimes may be reconfigured from a constitutional perspective centered on the common good, fundamental rights, and equity.
The event welcomes proposals from diverse fields—including law, social sciences, arts, technology, and others—with the goal of rethinking the place of IP within constitutional law.
For those interested in participating, we invite you to submit proposals addressing the following suggested (non-exclusive) topics:
• Critical and constitutional theories of intellectual property.
• The social function of property in Latin American constitutions and its application to IP.
• Access to medicines.
• Use of the flexibilities of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) as a driver of social justice.
• Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions and their protection within intellectual property.
• IP and Intangible Cultural Heritage.
• Jurisprudential analysis of the social function of IP.
